Workshop Overview

This workshop equips learners with the theoretical foundations and clinical application of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT): Behaviour Intervention (BI). In addition to gaining sound theoretical knowledge, learners will develop essential core skills to effectively implement CBT behavioural strategies in clinical settings.

CBT is a highly structured, short-term, present-focused psychotherapy that helps clients resolve psychological distress by modifying dysfunctional thoughts and maladaptive behaviours. Among the most evidence-based psychotherapies available today, CBT has demonstrated proven effectiveness in treating clinical depression, anxiety disorders, and other mental health concerns.

This Level 2 masterclass is designed for individuals who wish to practise CBT Behaviour Intervention but have not yet received formal training. It is ideal for aspiring CBT Psychotherapists and Associate Psychologists (counselling) who are passionate about supporting others in achieving meaningful, goal-oriented change.

Learners with a relevant mental health qualification (e.g., a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology) will gain practical skills necessary to begin practising as a CBT Psychotherapist, particularly in behaviour-focused interventions.

Workshop Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Learners who has completed the Counselling & Psychotherapy Masterclass (Level 1)
  • SAC Provisional Clinical Member
  • SAC Registered Counsellor

Workshop Content

This workshop covers:

  • Introduction to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
    • Understand the structure, goals, and evidence base of CBT as a psychotherapeutic approach.
  • Theories and Clinical Applications of Behavioural Interventions in CBT
    • Explore how behavioural techniques are used within the CBT framework to create lasting psychological change.

Core Behavioural Strategies Taught in This Workshop:

  • ABC Model of Behaviour (Antecedent–Behaviour–Consequence)
    • Learn how to identify and analyse behavioural patterns to inform targeted interventions.
  • Guided Relaxation Techniques
    • Practical tools to reduce stress and anxiety through structured relaxation methods.
  • Graded Task Assignment

By the end of this workshop, learners will be equipped with the competencies required to apply behavioural strategies from CBT in clinical settings. Graduates will be able to implement practical behaviour-focused interventions for a variety of client presentations.

Course Assessment

Learners will be assessed through both written and practical components:

  • Video Role-Play Assignment
    • Learners must submit a recorded role-play session demonstrating the facilitation of Behaviour Intervention in a simulated setting.
  • Reflective Essay
    • Learners will submit a reflection evaluating their use of behavioural techniques, areas of improvement, and key takeaways from the role-play exercise.

These assessments are designed to evaluate learners’ clinical understanding and ability to apply CBT Behaviour Intervention strategies effectively.

Award
